Shakespeare's plays : Comedy, tradigy and history

Shakespears plays were split into three main genres. There was tradegy's , comedys and history's.
An example of each of these are:
A comedy would be a shakespearian play which normaly had a happy or cheerful ending. In shakesperian times, comedys were very popular and most people watching used to like them more then others.
Comedy-As you like it

A tradegy would be mostly plays which ended in a bad romance like Romeo and Juliet. Tradigies were sometimes sad and everyone would end up crying.
Tradegy-Titas Adronicos

History plays were all about battles and fighting, all about that past wars and fights. Most history plays included lots of blood and anger.

Comedies,Tragedies and Histories

Shakespeare catorgored his plays into the three genres comedies, tragedies and histories.

A comedy is a play or film that makes people laugh ,for example As You Like It, The Comedy of Errors and Much Ado About Nothing.

A tragedy is a play with unhappy events or a sad ending ,for example Romeo and Juliet, Hamlet and Macbeth.

A history play is a play which happens in the past ,for example King John, Richard II and Henry V.

Comedy, Tragedy and History...

Comedy....
A Shakespearean comedy is one that has a happy ending, usually involving marriages between the unmarried characters, and a tone and style that is more light-hearted than Shakespeare's other plays. (e.g. Measure for Measure, All is Well That Ends Well, Twelfth Night)

Tragedy....

A Shakespearean tragedy is the polar opposite of a comedy; it "...exemplifies the sense that human beings are inevitably doomed through their own failures or errors, or even the ironic action of their virtues, or through the nature of fate, destiny, or the human condition to suffer, fail, and die...." In other words, it is a drama with an unhappy ending. (e.g. Romeo & Juliet, Macbeth, Hamlet)

History....

The histories were those plays based on the lives of English Kings. Therefore they can be more accurately called the "English history plays," a less common designation. (e.g. King John, Richard II, Henry IV)

Shakespeare diary entry!

Dear diary,
today I found out that Anne is pregnant! It all happened when we went to the park and she started to talk about us getting married and getting settled down with two children. I thought something was fishy so I asked what was wrong. Then she suddenly shouted in my face saying she was pregnant! At first thought she was just joking about so I started to laugh hoping she would laugh too but unfortuneatly she didn't. She said she was serious and really was pregnant. I was as shocked as a commoner seeing the satan. But being the man I am I took things more maturely thats why I fainted. After gaining my consciousness i realised my mistake and asked her to marry me. Did I do the right thing? Got to run now, write to you tommorow bye. xoxoxoxo!!!!

Shakespeares Mysterious 10 Years of Absence

Where was i all these years? Well, after my well played HenryVII stressfull scene i headed to my house at midnight, but not for long, two dark figures appeared from nowhere in front of me, and the last thing i can remember was being hit on the head and waken up flowing in a river with no money or belongings...

In the early morning I woke up, and there was no sign of people that i knew so I started to look for people that would be able to help me to escape from wherever i was back to London. Later on it turned out that it was France, I met a nice old couple tha knew some English and had no exiting things to do whatsoever but good sense of humour so they let me stay. I could not come back to England beacause France was at war with another country and the only way was to serve the Governor,(ruler- whatever kinds of people were in charge of the country) and get ready to serve for those dark 10 years of non-stop work and day dreaming what it would be like at home.
P.S- The two dark shadows turned out to be puritans that burned The 'Global Theatre' last week.

My Definitions

( - is Williams plays )

History is a chronological order of famous events that happended in the past, like wars for instance.-King John, Richard III, King Hnry IV .

Comedy is eg. a light and humorous work that is ussually satrical in tone that contains happy resolution of a thematic conflict.-Comedy of Errors, Midsummer Night's Dream,

Tragedy is drama or literary work which the main character is brought to ruin or suffers extreme sorrow, especially as a consequence of a tragic flaw or moral weaknes to cope with bad cicrumstances.-Antony and cleopatra, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet

Shakespearean comedy and tragedy

A Shakespeare comedy usually ended happily. Mostly a wedding. Love and love problems are an important part in many of his comedies and there's always a misunderstanding or pesky family or friends that complicate things.

The element of a tragedy were...
- witches,ghosts etc.
-tragic hero
-conflict
-revenge
-sad ending
-humorous scene
-isolation of main character

Most of Shakespeare's tragedies are focused around a moral.

Diary entry- The day of my wedding!

Wow, i'm getting married today! Thats really gone quick. I suppose i'm quite nervous to see how dear Anne will look. Despite that, I hope i look good! It will be very embarrassing to look ugly at my own wedding! Does my breath smell nice? I hope it does! because when the vicar said you may kiss the bride and i have stinky breath it will all go wrong! This wedding is going to cost loads! I'll have to start using scratch cards to try and pay the debts off! Aw, you don't know how nervous i am! It's my last day of freedom! Uh oh! Thats not good! no more flirting? Maybe Anne would want kids! Oh no, little brats running around spending my money! I suppose i'll need more scratch cards? What if i puke? Will Anne want to kiss me? Will she still say i do? Ah, i'm having a nervous breakdown! Im shaking now! Is that good? I hope i don't make a complete fool of myself today! I love Anne! Well, i think i do anyway. Yes, i do! I have too! I'm marrying her today!
OMG! Im getting married today!!! But i have stinky breath!
I'm off to the corner shop to get my scratch card and some mint polo's and Extra chewing gum. Cya!

Dear Diary :

I am so tired. Dad just got me into a school ; a grammar school. Dad said I better do good because it's costing him a lot of money for me to be able to go there. Its a lot of hard work and I have to attend at 6am in the morning till 6pm , that's 12 hours of school ! But I'm really lucky because out of all my brothers & sister , I'm the only one attending a grammar school which gives me a great chance of getting a good job. Think them 12 hours at grammar school for a couple of years should pay off.

I should be off since I've got school in the morning and have to work up early to be there on time
Bye diary .

The wedding

Dear Diary,
Today I have just found out that the Consistory court of Diocese of Worcester have a marriage licence for me so I am able to get married tomorrow. I am getting married to a lady called Anne Hathaway. She is 26 and pregnant and I am only 18. I know what you are thinking I am too young. But i don't want to die alone! Anne needs a husband for her baby and I am willing to be him. Our wedding is going to be November 28 1582 at the famous temple Grafton which is in a small village five miles from Stratford-apon-avon which is where I live. Anne and me did not have time to give invitations for the wedding so tonight we will be telling people about are big day and we will see who turns up tomorrow. I will be wearing my best clothes consisting doublet, breeches, hose, neck ruff and cod piece. Anne will be wearing her best gown and will be carrying flowers. She will walk down the aisle with two brides maids with her hair loose but when she is married to me she will hide her hair beneath her bonnet. There will be loads of wedding feasts such as loyal foods and google wine . Once we are married she will leave her home and come live wilth me. Hopefully the next time I will be writing in my diary I will be married. I better talk a early night for the big day.

Twins....

I was happy with Susanna's birth but, now I'm even more happier with the birth of the twins. They are a blessing from God, a girl and a boy. Anne and I think we should name them after people who are close to us. We agreed to the name them after the baker, Hamnet Saddler, and his wife Judith.

Hamnet and Judith.

MY LOST YEARS

help! my mind is empty. I have no more ideas for my newest play. Back in Stratford upon Avon the whole atmosphere and neighborers just gave me inspiration and i could easily think of more and more plays and ideas for my new creations. All the laughter from the children, clear, blue, sunny skies. Since i moved to London i haven't actually thought of any new ideas. I need some inspiration. Everyone thinks i'm this genius that can write anything, anywhere. So i can't go out and have the public see that i need help for my work and have them think that all my scripts and work are not completely mine. It's weird that they would think that ,but that's the 15's people for you, cruel and strange. So i'm going to go in hiding, not like a terrorist, but just so that i can work on my new play. Hopefully i'll find some inspiration.

...3 years later...

I've come back, but not alone. I've come with my newly wife Ann Hathaway and my newest son Hamnet. Also with 6 new plays to produce. Looks like my lost years went well.

shakespeares lost years

Dear Diary,

I have had quite enough! First my papa makes me leave school because of his foolishness ( I didn't tell him to keep ignoring the taxes!) and now he's making me work like a slave! My days and nights are spent out in the cold making saddles, harness' and leather gloves! I've just had enough! I'm not going to be working day and night like a horse when I get nothing in return; No pay, no respect and not even a smile of appreciation!

However I have a plan ; tomorrow night i sneak out of the house with all my things and settle in a hotel for a few days, then I make a journey to London and try to make a start in the acting industry (I would have told papa about my passion for acting but i know that he won't approve.) I've packed all my things and i'm ready. Plus i'm not alone. I've a girlfriend (Anne) to help me...
